Shadows are cast by the terrain itself. Scrub the time to see which slopes get the sun first — handy for spring corn and for planning around sun-baked faces. The slider runs from two hours before sunrise to two hours after sunset; the dot on the compass shows where the sun is.
SLABS rates how likely a skier-triggered slab avalanche is on each slope under today's bulletin, relative to the average: a statistical model built from 1,250 avalanche accidents and 58,000 km of ski tours.
Experimental model output, based on Skitourenguru's published method (Schmudlach & Köhler). It does not replace the official avalanche bulletin, training, or judgement on the ground.
Drag a rectangle on the map. Up to ~11 × 11 km, computed at 10 m.
Danger level, critical elevation and critical aspects from the bulletin.
Times follow DIN 33466 (as DAV / ÖAV); your pace scales them. 1.0 is an average tourer (400 m/h on skins), 1.5 a fit one (600 m/h).
Draw a route to get distance, ascent, steepest section and an elevation profile coloured by slope.
Hover the map for live readings in the status bar. Click to pin a point.
Draw a rectangle and download it as a 3D model that opens on a phone without internet. It carries what the map shows now: base map, overlay, names, lifts & pistes and the visible routes.
iPhone: open the .usdz from Files (or straight from Safari); tap AR to put the model on a table. It shows the overlay that is on now. Any phone: open the .html from Files in the browser; it has buttons for slope, aspect and contour lines, the names float above the terrain, and the location button shows where you are when you are inside the area. The model has real proportions (no height exaggeration), the long side 50 cm. Sizes are estimates.
Detail loads automatically: 10 m around the point you look at when zoomed in, coarser further away and outside the view.
For mobile data: no terrain or images kept outside the view, slightly coarser detail, aerial images at most 2 m. On by default on phones.

The pivot is the point you orbit around. Drag the slider to set it by hand — a green plane shows the height.
BEYOND — a 3D map for freeriders and ski tourers: read slope, aspect, sun and terrain traps before you go.
For the selected area — take them from today's bulletin.
Terrain above this elevation counts as the bulletin's critical band. Below it the risk drops off smoothly.

Thanks for trying this beta version of BEYOND maps.
BEYOND is a planning aid, not a replacement for proper avalanche knowledge, the avalanche bulletin or your own judgement in the mountains.
As a beta it can still contain bugs. We are happy with any feedback or ideas.
